Prepare for nested repositories (submodules)

Description

It would be nice to support them as soon as they are available in Mercurial: http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/index.cgi/NestedRepositories

This would enable the backend to work with forest extension as well. But it means a lot of restructuring in all areas.
