corrupting Eclipse software updates mechanism

Reported by: jarek Assigned to:
Priority: high Milestone:
Component: mercurialeclipse Version:
Severity: major Keywords:

Description

Installation of MercurialEclipse? apparently corrupts general Eclipse software update mechanism.

Symptoms: Cannot install any further plugins (any, e.g. http://pydev.sourceforge.net/download.html). Hitting 'install' makes Eclipse report: "Cannot complete the request. See the details". Details: "Format error in file: C:\DOCUME~1\Jarek\LOCALS~1\Temp\p2Encoding39918.opb."

It has been checked, that before installation of MercurialEclipse? everything works (installs) fine.

I can confirm this ! Using the above mentioned software versions i had to setup Eclipse again - this time without the Mercurial Eclipse Plugin. This is serious !

this is not a problem with MEP as I have this problem at work without MEP installed... the "new" update mechanism is broken, you will have to enable classic update and use that (go to window -> help -> "type capabil" and select capabilities and enable classic updates

hmm, or it could be a problem with MEP which is similar to a problem with another plugin I have...

Strangely, the update mechanism will not install MercurialEclipse? on a nearly-fresh install of eclipse 3.4.1.

I have the Java dev eclipse package with only PyDev? and the mylyn trac connector as extras.

I have pydev at work too, would it be too much to ask if your computer fails without pydev installed?

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to invalid.

It installs for me (Ubuntu 8.10, Eclipse 3.4.1) without problems. As stated before, this is not a problem with MEP (at least none that we know how to fix). Therefore I close the ticket...
